What is Child Protection or Safeguarding?
Safeguarding includes all the work that school does to ensure that learners stay safe. It includes health and safety, meeting the needs of learners with healthcare needs, site security etc.
Child Protection refers to the activity which is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm.
Safeguarding children is everyone's responsibility
If any person has knowledge, concerns or suspicions that a child is suffering, has suffered or is likely to be at risk of harm, it is their responsibility to ensure that the concerns are referred to social services or the police, who have statutory duties and powers to make enquiries and intervene when necessary

The interest of the child is paramount in all considerations of welfare and safeguarding.
If you have a concern regarding a child you must report this immediately to the named persons:
Designated Safeguarding Person: Mr. Andrew Llewellyn (Head teacher)
Deputy Safeguarding Persons: Mr Mark O’Brien (Deputy Head teacher)
If the concern is against Mr Llewellyn contact Mrs. Joanne Clark (via the school office)

School staff who respond to a child’s concerns:
Do
Stay calm and take what child says seriously
Ask normal questions to determine if there is a risk
Allow child to continue at own pace
Let them know you will need to tell someone
Reassure child done right thing
Let child know what you are going to do next
Report conversation to designated person.
Don’t
Promise confidentiality
Ask leading questions
Confront the alleged abuser
Ask child to repeat what has been said
Interview other children or parents
