Learning in Year 4
Literacy - Throughout the year we develop our writing skills in a range of different genres through writing journeys and topic writing tasks. These include: letters, newspaper reports, diary entries, recounts, instructions, explanations, narratives and non-chronological reports. We have guided reading sessions, handwriting practise and use Read, Write Inc spelling.
Maths - In Year 4 we follow the White Rose Maths scheme of work. Throughout the year we will learn about place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, length and perimeter, area, fractions, decimals, money, time, position and direction, properties of shape and statistics. We will apply the skills we learn across our topic work.
Pupils can access Sumdog Maths and Times Table Rockstars at home as well as in school.
Topic- Throughout the year we will do 3 different topics within the Humanities, Science & Technology and Expressive Arts areas of learning. In addition, we will do 3 wellbeing topics - What is happiness?, You Are What You Eat and Making Choices to learn about keeping our mind and bodies healthy.
A parent topic overview will be emailed out to you before each topic to inform you of what the pupils will be learning.
Expressive Arts - Animal Magic
Our topic this term is an art based 'Animal Magic' topic. We will be looking at African animals in particular, and using lots of expressive arts skills including drawing, colour mixing and 3d sculpture work.
